Iquitos

Capital of the department of Loreto, in the Amazon basin in north eastern Peru. A port on the river Amazon, from here you can travel to the tourist lodges deep in the jungle itself. Because of its special geographical situation it is not linked by road to the rest of the country the traditional means of communication with other cities is by river.
